author=fallujahWe are pleased to inform everyone that President GMA has signed the Executive Order granting amnesty for loose firearms and those with expired Licenses. This was one of the issues on the agenda during the last 1st PNP Firearms Summit held last 18-19 May 2009 which UAA and PROGUN attended as delegates. We, in UAA and PROGUN pushed for this Amenesty for holders of expired licenses (not just loose firearms) because these constitute the majority of legitimate firearms owners. To date, approximately 650,000 licenses have not been renewed, primarily due to the high cost of renewal and penalties to be paid. This is the FIRST AMNESTY for expired license holders. With the inclusion of expired licenses in this amnesty, holders of expired licenses shall only be required to pay a minimal fee of P650 to update and renew their licenses. All other penalties and back fees are WAIVED. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ By virtue of GMA's excutive order, a National Firearms Control Executive Committee headed by the Civil Security Group of the Philippine National Police was formed. This is an Inter-agency excutive committee composed of representatives from Bureau of Customs, Department of Interior and Local Government, Bureau of Immigration, Philippine Army, National Bureau of Investigation, NAIA, and civilian stakeholders such as AFAD, IANSA, PROGUN, and UAA. I was appointed to sit on this committee, which in in charge of all matters relating to firearms in the country, particularly the reduction of loose firearms in the hands of threat groups and terrorist organizations and the implementation of all Firearms polices by the Philippine government. These are the pics at PNP General Headquarters Conference Room a Camp Crame, QC, for the discussion yesterday on the drafting of the Implementing Rules and Regulations for the recently-issued Firearms Amnesty by President GMA.
